Description:

The National Academy for Educational Leadership (Leadership Academy) was established in May 2018 as an arm’s length organisation, separate from Welsh Government. It is not a deliverer of learning but instead brokers and quality assures a range of approved provision for the Welsh education system.

The Leadership Academy is responsible for the strategic oversight and direction of leadership provision to meet the needs of the education system within Wales. It has a key role in ensuring equity of access to high-quality leadership development by endorsing a range of leadership provision for all levels of educational leadership and commissioning provision where gaps are identified.

The Leadership Academy has also developed an endorsement model for leadership provision and is building capacity in the system through its academy associates. It feeds into strategic workforce planning for leadership and acts as a conduit and focus for policy thinking, evidence gathering and research dissemination in regard to educational leadership.

“Education in Wales, Our National Mission” sets out the key actions with our 4 key objectives for our country up to 2021. Inspiring leaders working collaboratively is one of the 4 objectives. The Leadership Academy has a critical role in securing this objective.

The Leadership Academy is looking to recruit a Communication and Project Support Officer to support the senior leadership team in the promotion of its activities and outputs and improving the visibility of the Academy within the education system in Wales. This post will report to the Business Manager of the Leadership Academy.

Key Tasks

Website
• Support the content and design of the Leadership Academy’s website ensuring that the content is consistent, up to date, accurate and relevant
• Liaise with the senior leadership team to ensure communications on our website are accurate and up to date

Digital Marketing
• Manage the Academy’s social media platforms, creating and maintaining a schedule of communications
• Production and dissemination of the Academy newsletter
• Production of material for inclusion in partner agencies’ newsletters and publications

Events
• Assist the senior leadership team in planning and organising all Leadership Academy events
• Attend exhibitions and events to promote the work of the Leadership Academy

Print
• Formatting and laying out of flyers, leaflets, brochures and other collateral
• Working with the business manager to order merchandise and other marketing materials

Stakeholder & Partner Engagement
• Managing calendars for associates and key stakeholders
• Attending operational stakeholder meetings
• Working with PR and communication agency to organise press releases, media
• Attending communication strategy meetings with Welsh Government and partner agency representatives when required
• Working with Welsh Government and partner agencies to develop coherent and collaborative communications
• Engage with the Welsh media proactively and reactively

Project Support
• Supporting the senior leadership team in the creation of the annual report
• Supporting the senior leadership team in the creation of the communications and marketing plan
• Supporting the senior leadership team in the design, monitoring and evaluation of targeted campaigns
• Supporting the delivery of Academy Associates Programme
• Providing support to the senior leadership team across a range of projects as required

Key skills
• Educated to degree level in a relevant subject
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Positive and enthusiastic
• Literate in range of software including MS Office and Adobe suite
• Excellent attention to detail
• Experience of dealing with a wide range of stakeholders
• Experience of using digital marketing platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Hootsuite, Wordpress
• Able to produce content for a range of different contexts
• Willing to show initiative
• Thorough and methodical approach to work.
