Job Purpose
To co-ordinate, monitor and develop the Welsh language through supporting the Council in meeting its reporting and statutory requirements under the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 and associated Welsh Language Standards

Main Tasks performed
Supporting the Council to provide a Welsh language service which promotes, integrates and embeds Welsh language across the Local Authority to support the Council in promoting the use of the Welsh language and treating the Welsh and English languages on the basis of equality.
To manage the cost base associated with the provision of a Welsh language service by developing and supporting a range of sustainable changes in culture which will lead to more efficient operational practices.
1. To support the Council to respond to and comply with the Welsh Language Standards.
2. To identify and disseminate examples of good practice in the delivery of the Welsh Language Standards across the Council.
3. To make presentations as appropriate in relation to the Welsh Language Standards.
4. Lead on ensuring Council reporting and monitoring arrangements in relation to the Welsh Language Standards are in place and are undertaken, including the requirement to produce an annual monitoring report for Welsh language.
5. Provide Welsh language advice to staff.
6. Help deal with customers who wish to speak Welsh.
7. Preparation of English to Welsh and Welsh to English translations to support the Council in complying with the Welsh Language Standards and the provision of Welsh Language Services across the Local Authority.
8. Provide cost savings in relation to translation work and strategically approaching the need to undertake some large translation work.
9. Provision of proof reading as required.
10. Provide support to Corporate Communications for Social Media responses as required, and other media activities where Welsh language considerations present themselves.
11. Provide support for public consultations as required.
12. Co-ordinate and support the Council’s Welsh Language Working Group.
13. Oversee the Language Choice process/arrangements.
14. Liaise with national and local bodies, groups and agencies on Welsh language.
15. Support joint working and developing relationships with partners across statutory, voluntary and private sectors.
